Ouch.
The supercharger basically ate itself.

And now it’s setting its sights on your buddy’s wallet.
At least it still looks damn good on the outside.

Paging AMGTech!
How much would this cost to fix? (approximately)

Wow. I’ve heard of this happening, but don’t see too many of the SC cars & haven’t seen it happen myself. I wonder what AMGTech has to say on it.

Because I can, let’s see some rough numbers:
Part # 113 090 00 80 88
Supercharger (Genuine Mercedes Rebuilt)
Retail: $4,265.00 Core Charge: $3,840.00
Book labor is 5.2 hours, and because that’s useless as a core, $8700 just gets you in the door for parts & labor. I’m sure there’s significant collateral damage so that’s probably nowhere close. If any of that got into the engine, triple that at least .

so... LS swap? Preferably LS3? Or LS9?
![]() 05/22/2015 at 19:46 |
|
LS9 should do nicely. $26,000 in a box from Chevy!
![]() 05/22/2015 at 19:57 |
|
Wait... I thought they were like $10k?
EDIT: HOLY SHIT! That is... expensive

I did too, then I Googled it and had the same WTF moment.
![]() 05/22/2015 at 20:03 |

FINE! Then get an LS3 with an LS9 cam... or get an LSA
or better yet... LSX 454!

I’ve always dreamt of getting one of these one day since people told me if I wanted an AMG E-Class, I just had to stay away from the 5.5L Turbo and I should be safe.
Well I guess with this incident, the list of AMG E-Classes I can get has narrowed down to the 2009-2011 Naturally Aspirated E63s. T_T

or you could get this for 9

Well, yeah, but that isn’t an LS :P

Damn it! That sucks! And apparently people have been waiting for me to chime in. I’ve actually never seen one fail quite so catastrophically, though I have heard of it. Usually it’s just the clutch and pulley that go bad and chirp.

I think TFritch nailed it. But there may be aftermarket solutions available from companies like RennTech or Weistech or Kleeman. The engine itself is quite tough sho i would be surprised if it’s damaged, but fishing debris could be a lengthy process.

Personally never seen it, just pulleys and clutches. Have heard of it though. Pretty rare. I wonder if it got too hot (coolant loss or restriction?) or if the parts just decided to go on strike. I would bet the engine itself will be fine, but I would still pull the plugs and check for debris/damage.

W210 E55, naturally aspirated. I’m currently trying to find the right one for myself.

I think if all else fails...
is always the answer

But Mercedes is known for their diesels, so let’s try to stay on those lines and put in a duramax.
